A sewing notebook is a great way to keep track of your projects, ideas, and notes. It is also a cute little gift for anyone who loves to sew!
The cover of this sewing notebook is printed using smudge proof pigment ink on to thick textured card. It is hand sewn using waxed thread and is available in either a 9 by 12 inch (3.5 by 5.5 inch) or 18 by 12 inch (7.5 by 5 inch) size, both with 26 pages of white writing paper.
Using Recycled Paper, Heavy Paper, or Textured/Colored Paper
When making a stitched notebook, it is best to use recycled paper or other sturdy materials for the cover, and heavier papers for the inside pages. For this project, I used a piece of recycled paper that has a lovely double-sided print on it.
To start, cut a piece of cover paper slightly larger than the size of your pages. This is important for a few reasons: it will make a nice thick book-like cover, and it will allow you to fold the book-like cover in half without any excess paper sticking out.
Next, punch a few holes in the spine of the book-like cover. This can be done with a regular needle and thread, but you should also use a push pin to hold the cover in place while you are punching the holes.
Stitching the Binding
The last step in the sewing process is to bind your sewing notebook. You will need a thread that is at least 2 1/2 times the length of the spine of the notebook. Starting on one side, and going in through the first hole in the cover, go out through the second hole and tie a double knot. Repeat this process until all of the stitches are in place. Leave a tail of thread so you can trim it short once you are finished.
